US Section 301 forced-labor tariffs replace the 10% global surcharge on 24 July 2026

A Dorsey client alert of 24 July 2026 reports that the Trump administration implemented Section 301 tariffs, effective the same day, after an investigation into global enforcement of forced-labor prohibitions. They replace the expired 10% global import surcharge.

Extensive exemptions apply to certain pharmaceuticals, chemicals, agricultural commodities, seafood and forest products. Small businesses and states have challenged the tariffs in the US Court of International Trade.
