A White House proclamation of 1 June 2026 revised the Section 232 tariffs on steel, aluminium and copper, effective 8 June 2026 through 31 December 2027, according to a C.H. Robinson advisory. The standard duty stays at 25% for most affected imports, a reduced 15% rate was extended to some machinery and equipment, and steel racks and aluminium lithographic plates were added as derivative products.
Preferential treatment, capped at 15% total duty, is kept for the EU, UK, Japan, Korea and several others. Canada and Mexico under USMCA pay on non-US content only, at a minimum 15% effective rate.
Roof racks and brackets are exactly the kind of metal derivative product these rules reach, so US-bound pricing from competitors in the affected countries is worth watching.
