Maersk sets its Australian intermodal fuel fee at 27% from 1 October 2026

Container News reported on 30 September 2026 that Maersk will apply an Intermodal Fuel Fee of 27% from 1 October 2026 across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia, and across New Zealand. The fee applies as an Export and Import Fuel Surcharge on landside transport services.

Maersk attributes it to higher global energy prices and the Middle East security situation affecting fuel availability and intermodal costs. The fee was first introduced on 16 March 2026, is reviewed monthly and may be adjusted as conditions develop.

Landside charges on imported containers flow through to the landed cost of goods arriving from Asia.
