Australia Post: US tariff arrangements and new customs requirements for parcels

Australia Post posted on 24 February 2026 that a 10% global import surcharge would apply to all items sent to the US. Its US tariff page sets out the timeline and the rules for senders:

The USD $800 de minimis exemption is suspended indefinitely; duties are paid before goods enter the US rather than collected from the recipient.
Every parcel needs the country of origin, an accurate declared value and a 10-digit HS tariff code (6 or 8-digit codes are rejected from 24 July 2026).
Business customers must hold a verified Zonos account, which charges the applicable tariff, a handling fee of 10% of payable duties and a flat admin fee.
The global tariff expired on 24 July 2026 and was replaced by duties set per HS code and country of origin.
From 22 October 2026 a new Informal Entry Type 13 clearance process is required for regulated goods.
